Maximizing Profit in Heavy Oil Processes

Fouling in heavy oil processes is a pervasive issue that significantly impacts throughput, on-stream time, and unit profitability. Each year heavy oil refineries invest a great deal of time and money to understand fouling mechanisms and take actions to lower fouling rates. Although fouling and related maintenance activities are accepted as a part of daily life in the industry, a higher grade of energy recovery is still on the wish list.

At the ARTC, Refinery Market Manager Jay Jeong will present how Alfa Laval challenges the way we look at fouling mitigation and energy recovery in heavy oil processes. Examples of how heat exchanger technologies with differing geometries have solved this perplexing issue will be presented. The presentation also includes an operating case story from PTTGC, Thailand, where Alfa Laval heat exchanger technology has been applied in a visbreaker application.
